The other day, Warren, my partner in work and life, came to me with a long list of numbers. It was a spreadsheet ( not my favorite thing) of the number of people who had downloaded my free eGuides, subscribed to the blog, downloaded Creative Warriors podcast episodes, picked up free gifts on Creative Warriors Offers page, and several other metrics. It was a wow moment.
You see, earlier this year I set a “quest” to impact the lives of 50,000 people this year. Not a goal. A quest. The difference being I didn’t want to get hung up, as I normally would, on whether I met the goal. The point was for the number to big enough that it seemed a bit impossible, I had no idea HOW I was going to do it, and it was meaningful. What I’ve come to realize is that measuring the impact I want to create in this world and the number of lives I want to touch is far more meaningful than measuring money. Hey–money is important too. Here’s how I feel about money. Money does not create happiness. Money creates the conditions for happiness. So yes, it creates freedom from stress.
Here’s what I know for sure though. That when we focus on money it is almost always the lack of money causing us stress. By focusing on it, we get more stress and less money. Exactly what we focus on. So imagine the possibilities by focusing on impact.
Thats’ what this Huffington Post article is all about. And a few suggestions on how you can measure your own impact.
