I’ve been asked by the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) to give a webinar. I decided to go with the theme of “Sales as Service”. As I prepare for the webinar on Aug 6th (see registration info below) I’m reminded why this topic is so important to me.
Simply put, I believe small business owners have the power to affect the world in a very positive way. One client or customer at a time, the small business owner can change what their customers experience when it comes to the exchange of services and products. In making that change one person at a time we can change the world. Sounds like a lofty idea but I believe in this. At it’s core ‘sales’ is about a relationship exchange. I provide something for you and you give me something in return. From a karmic perspective it’s a beautiful thing. Doing for others first. Somewhere along the line the whole deal became a ‘taking’ model. Many people built up lives and businesses so grand and their NEED for money so huge to support the life they built, the whole process became a pushy “I need your money and I’m going to sell you something you don’t need”. I think we’re done with this. It’s why people just back away if energetically they can sense your ‘need’.
While attending a leadership development retreat recently, one of my peers made a comment that she felt like the world was going to Hell and she was running out of time to save it. Phew- sounds exhausting. I had to interject that I feel the complete opposite. I think this is an incredible time in human evolution and if I feel any shortage of time it’s for me to be a part of helping to facilitate the change. So let’s do this small business owners. Let’s join a mission to change the sales ‘taking’ model to a relationship exchange. Think of the person in front of you, your client, not as someone to gain from but rather someone whose life you want to improve and trust in fair treatment in return. We can build an incredible world.
